NaPoWriMo/NaPoREADMo #8 — While is a verb

While is a verb

In the rainwashed gullet, in the skeletal,
sketched out waste network of the city,
something marks the invisible boundary
of an anonymous and boneless aloneness.

A slight and fragile lance has fallen to rest
in the green and scraggling cracks of the city.
An instrument that softens all the blows,
it’s heart a black stillness that plunges deep,

sips hunger from a cylinder and slips its
spike into nightless sleep. Palsied children
sweat on couches and search for a place to
get away for a while while what took them

away waits to take them again to any place
but here. Washed up on the shore of things,
they barely remember and no longer care.

A night-house on the point of ever-beckoning
return calls and calls and calls.
				                    We measure
our lives in so many units of so many kinds.
How exactly do we measure our deaths?

Keepin' the "Po" in NaPoWriMo....

  1. “anonymous and boneless aloneness.”

That is simply perfect. Perfect in pairing image and emotion, not to mention sound/rhythm. I hear a very dry snare, I also hear a homemade drum kit made out of boxes, crates, and barrels being hit by one who knows how to hit it.

    • Have you been listening in? 😉

I am an incessant tapper and sometimes even play at being a real percussionist. I’ve just recently purchased a midi keyboard (it’s not here yet) and am exploring making music with Garageband and the ridiculously infinite options for noise-making this makes possible.
      This guy kills me:

And here he is getting closer to his true weirdness potential:

I love music that eschews traditional concepts of “musicality”.

    • I thank you very kindly for saying so.
I just don’t know that I have the energy for it. or the sticktoitiveness. or the gumption. or something. Maybe I’m just too lazy? It takes me so long to crank out anything that I think is decent and then I don’t have the patience go through that whole process. Too much a child of American instant gratification maybe.
But I do find myself with a bit more free time lately……
