One of my all-time favorite musicians and composers, playing a piece for orchestra and bandoneón that he composed for his father.
(Though to be honest, I prefer his smaller ensemble work–call it “Chamber Tango”)
If you were not already familiar with his music, let this be your introduction (and possibly a preview of next Sunday’s Soundtrack for Surfing….)
He elevated Tango to a whole new level.
But I want to see dancers instead of the musicians! I’ve never seen an accordionist play with an orchestra like that though, so I take it back. Really interesting.

That’s no ordinary accordion. That is The Bandoneón (kinda the national instrument of Argentina–because of tango). Twice the bellows and twice the passion!

I’m aware of the accordian-tango connection but obviously I’m completely ignorant beyond that! Thank you. 🙂

I certainly was too until I discovered Astor many (about twenty? [eek!]) years ago and fell in love with tango music (okay….I mostly just fell in love with Astor Piazzola music…).
