Monday’s Music Box: Soundtrack for Surfing, Live!: Daughter
One of my new favorite musical ventures. To whom I was introduce by (go figure) my daughter, Miss Magpie.
Yeah. She’s got good taste. Comes by it honestly, I’d say.
Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, 2016.
Another group that’s hard to genre-ize. Part folk, part pop, part electronica, part 90’s era Pixies-esque post-punk.
All good.
The lyrics are not for the faint-of-heart, but, as a poet, that is something that I can appreciate.
You know the drill.
Press play.
Go on about your day.
…and just because it is especially touching, sad and incredibly well-put-together, here is their official video for “Doing The Right Thing”. I found it moving to the point of tears:

Monday’s Music Box: Soundtrack for Surfing: The Cinematic Orchestra, “Man with a movie camera”
We’re all stars
in our own motion
picture shows.
Today,
let your movie
be groovy.
Hit play.
Let it stay.
Go on about your day.
This is actually a soundtrack for the film, “Man with a Movie Camera” (Russian: Человек с кино-аппаратом (Chelovek s kinoapparatom), composed by Jason Swinscoe and performed by the British jazz and electronic outfit The Cinematic Orchestra.
Alternatively, if you’d rather veg-out to the original 1929 Russian Avant-Garde silent film with the above soundtrack, just hit play on this:
(note: I have not checked this out myself yet….)
